Day 7-- Testimony Meeting in Sacred Grove, Martin Harris Farm, Book of Mormon printing site

Day 7: Thursday June 23

6 am and the sun wakes me up and I didn't have to get up for another hour

Entrance to the Sacred Grove

I think he was the first guy to settle in Palmyra

They do not know where Alvin's actual grave is because his headstone was found close to the river. It could have possibly been moved from a landslide

Alvin's original headstone

We had our lesson here. This park is dedicated to some members that were asked by the prophet to move in the Palmyra area in the early 1900's to live on the Joseph Smith Sr. farm (One of the Smith farms...wish I could remember)
Today we left for our second day at the Sacred Grove at about 8 am. We had a lesson about the 8 witnesses and then had a testimony meeting in the grove. I hate speaking publicly but once I heard that there would be a testimony meeting IN THE SACRED GROVE I could not let that opportunity pass me by. After the testimony meeting we got to wander around the grove one last time :) Then we traveled to Martin Harris's farm. It looks pretty cool! Brother Harris does get a bad rep but I bet he is doing just fine now and helping the work along in the spirit world. I think we went to the Erie Canal for a site presentation after we saw the Harris farm. The original part of the canal looks gross because it is sedentary water. Later on we got to see the place where the Book of Mormon was printed. I learned where they got the terms uppercase and lowercase. (The capital letters where in the 'upper' case and non-capital letters were in the 'lower' case. *Once I post pictures this will make sense. Amazing! You learn something new every day. I splurged a little and bought a replica copy of the 1st edition of the Book of Mormon. I like it :) After our tour of the printing site we went to Lucy Harris's grave site. Two of the young men that came with us 'danced' on Lucy's grave. This really hit me hard. We cannot judge Lucy for her actions, we do not know all of the circumstances and we definitely should not be so disrespectful! Grave yards are a sacred place and should be treated as such *rant over*

Tonight we had dinner at Applebee's. It took them OVER AN HOUR to give us our food. I wish we weren't having such big meals everyday, but that's life when you are traveling.
